Sony Xperia Z Ultra now official: 6.5mm thin, 1080p 6.4-inch TRILUMINOS Display, 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor


We had earlier reported on the rumor that the Sony Xperia Z Ultra will be announced on June 25th and that has come true. 

The Japanese multinational giant has finally unveiled the latest addition to its Xperia Z line-up, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone at Mobile Asia Expo, Shanghai. Sporting a 6.4-inch 1080p Triluminos display, the Xperia Z Ultra runs on the ultra-powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2 GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Having an 8 megapixel camera with an Exmor RS sensor and a 2-megapixel front camera, the new Sony flagship for now proudly holds the below titles to its name:

“The world’s largest full HD smartphone display” 
“The world’s sharpest large-screen smartphone display” 
“The world’s fastest smartphone processor” 

Weighing 212 grams, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is actually the same width as a passport and measures a mere 6.5mm thick in comparison to the 6.18mm Huawei's Ascend P6 which is the world's slimmest smartphone. This beautiful and sleek smartphone has a brushed aluminum frame along the sides for stability along with tempered glass on the front as well as the back. With 16GB of internal storage (11GB user available) expandable upto 64GB (microSD slot), the phablet packs a 3000 mAh battery.


The 6.4” TRILUMINOS display which is unique to Sony reproduces a much better range of rich, natural colours delivering true and natural shades. This innovative display also includes Sony's X-Reality engine that analyses every single image to optimise colours, sharpness and contrast. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is IP58 certified offering a high level of water protection (deeper than 1m) and support for handwriting recognition which works with any pencil, pen with conductive tip or a stylus having a diameter of over 1 mm.



The smartphone will be available globally in Q3 in white, black and purple colors with the chinese market being amongst the first to get the Xperia Z Ultra.

Update: The Sony Xperia Z Ultra will cost €719, i.e. $945 or Rs 56000 in India. In UK the mobile network Three will be carrying the device later this year in Q3.
